Hanne, 55, and her partner Rob Morton live on Waiheke Island, near Auckland, New Zealand where they run a certified organic tree nursery. They produce most of their own food and are living off-grid at the Awaawaroa ecovillage which they founded more than 20 years ago with a group of shareholders including Hanne’s fellow crew members Bunny McDiarmid and Henk Haazen.
After the bombing Hanne settled in New Zealand and worked on the Greenpeace Antarctic campaign. She later studied permaculture design and from 1990 worked with Rob in a plant nursery before they started up their own. The couple have an 18-year-old daughter, Tilde, who is studying at university.
